SCRU

Sunshine Coast Rugby Union Limited (SCRU) was established in 2009 after the winding down of the Sunshine Coast District Rugby Union and the Sunshine Coast Junior Rugby Union.  The new company was created to control the game of Rugby Union in the Sunshine Coast region.

Controlled by a Board of Directors rather than a committee, the board is made up of seven independent Directors recruited for their high-level expertise and business acumen and skills that they can bring to the contemporary organisational structure.

Due to the independent nature of the governing body, the board does not represent any single club or member but is able to provide one clear direction for the game in consultation with current stakeholders and members.

The benefits of such an organisation are great.  The SCRU allows for improved strategic planning and coordination of Rugby Union from Caboolture to Hervey Bay.  It also facilitates the development of long-term strategies for growing rugby in the clubs to allow them to complete with other football codes with regards to player recruitment and spectator games support.

Since 2009 the SCRU has instigated a bid to enter the Super Rugby competition, rugby scholarships with the University of the Sunshine Coast, visits by Wallabies Coach Robbie Deans and Reds Coach Ewan McKenzie and a move of administration into Stockland Stadium at Quad Park.
