Grassroots Rugby on Sunshine Coast to receive massive boost

Sunshine Coast Rugby Union has announced the appointment of three new Development Officers to support the growth of the sport across the region.

The Chairman of Sunshine Coast Rugby Union, Mr Ian Brown is confident the new Development Officers will successfully increase club and school rugby participation across the Sunshine Coast for boys and girls.

“This is significant step for rugby on the Sunshine Coast to have greater input into the development of our sport and to attract new players to rugby in clubs and schools across the region, “said Mr Brown.

For the last two years Sunshine Coast Rugby Union has employed a part-time Development Officer to increase rugby participation which has been well received by clubs and schools.

“The positive response to our recent efforts gives us great confidence that the investment in additional resources will sow the seeds for the continued growth of rugby on Sunshine Coast for boys, girls, parents and senior players to enjoy for many years to come.”

“Our three new Development Officers will work across the northern, central and south west regions of the Sunshine Coast to undertake activities in the afternoon after-school, early evenings, during school holidays, or single ‘muster days’ to excite boys and girls to give rugby a go,” said Mr Brown.

A key role of the new Development Officers will support Sunshine Coast rugby clubs with a social Friday night program designed for parents to relax and utilise the hospitality of the local rugby clubs during the summer months, whilst their children are actively engaged in a multi sports and movement program.

“Introducing more parents and children across the Sunshine Coast to ‘the ethos of Rugby’ through our established rugby communities will have great benefits for our sport and region,” said Mr Brown.

Sunshine Coast Rugby Union is now looking to fill these new Development Officer roles and if you are a university student completing a Teaching or Sports & Exercise Science Degree, or are completing a Sports Trainer Certificate and are looking for some part-time work to help you through your studies, then one of these three positions may interest you.
