The 2017 Season has arrived…

Our 2017 season kicks off this weekend and there are loads of interesting match ups that are set to intrigue the rugby public. While early form may be an indicator of the upcoming season, the analogy that a grand final isn’t won in the first round also applies.

With later starts in A-Grade this season, games kick-off at 4:30pm at Maroochydore and University. The Dolphins will be keen to start their premiership defense off against the Barbarians and the Lighthouses will also want to carry their 2016 efforts into 2017. The interest will be around the improvements to both the Swans, under new coach Stu Beakey and the Barbarians under Rhys Roberts.

Maroochydore Games:

12:30pm: Women’s – Maroochydore v Caloundra
1:30pm B-Grade – Maroochydore v Maleny
3:00pm B-Grade – Caloundra v Fraser Coast
4:30pm A-Grade – Maroochydore v Caloundra

USC Games:

3:00pm B-Grade – University v Nambour
4:30pm A – Grade – University v Noosa

The B-Grade season will be just as intriguing as the A-Grade, with the interest around the one-team clubs challenging the A-Grade clubs. Will Noosa and Caloundra be the teams to beast again this year, or will Gympie, Fraser Coast, Nambour or Maleny challenge the larger clubs?

Gympie Games:

1:00pm B-Grade – Gympie v Noosa
2:30pm Women’s – Gympie v Noosa

The continued growth of Women’s Rugby is on show with the ladies playing before the B-Grade at most venues this season. Who’ll take out the crown this year? Will it be Caloundra or Noosa demonstrating their strength in the women’s and men’s or will we see Gympie, Maroohydore or Uni leading the way this season?

Colts Games on Friday Night at USC:

6:30pm Colts – USC Saxons v Noosa
7:45pm Colts – USC Barbarians v Maroochydore

It’s great to see the return of Colts Rugby this season, with all games being played on Friday nights at the one venue. The U16s & U17s will join in on Fridays from May and then the Girl’s 7s starting in July will make Friday nights a festival of rugby each week.

Get down and support your teams this weekend as there will be some great rugby played in Seniors, Women’s and Colts.
