What Qualifications Do I Need?

By

It is an ARU requirement that all coaches and referees have the minimum accreditation of Smart Rugby, with additional training recommended specifically for the ages being coached and refereed.

Smart Rugby is available to be completed online and once completed is immediately recorded against your MyRugby ID in Rugby Link.

Coaching Kids Rugby

In 2017 the ARU has advised that the Coaching Kids Rugby Course will now be delivered in 2 parts:

  • Online Theory Course
  • 2 Hour Practical Skills Session at clubs (demonstration of drills)

The ARU advised yesterday that the online course would be available from the end of March , therefore we will begin delivery of the skills sessions from April.

Course Cost: $35/Person

If a coach wishes to do a course prior to the Coaching Kids being available they are advised to complete the online Smart Rugby Course which is available through the ARU Learning Centre (https://rugby.force.com/rugbyportal/apex/RL_Home)

Foundation

Foundation will be delivered the same way in 2017 as it was in 2016 – this is a full day course.

Please note Foundation is the pre-requisite course for Level 1 Coach Accreditation which is completed online following the foundation course.

The first round of foundation courses can be found at the link below:

Level 1 Coach Accreditation

The Level 1 Coach Accreditation can be completed online through the ARU Learning Centre following the completion of the foundation course.

Foundation course participants will be provided these details after the course.

Developing Coach Course ( Level 2 )

The Developing Coach Course (Level 2) is a 3 day course – we will run 4 of these courses in Brisbane in 2017 (February , July, September and November)

These courses are by application as the ARU have put a restriction on the number of people on each course.

  • The ARU has provided the following guidelines regarding course selection – This course is specifically designed for senior coaches working with adult athletes.
  • Therefore these coaches will receive priority when course selection takes place. However we will still provide opportunities for coaches from Junior & Teenage Rugby to attend the course.

Course Cost: $480/Person
($440 for the course and $40 for the Coach Level 2 Accreditation)

Please note the February and July Courses are fully subscribed.
