Country Championships are ON!

The Stingrays tackle the Gold Coast at Caloundra Rugby Fields, Arthur St (7:30pm kick-off ) next Friday night May 16 and then back–up to play the Darling Downs two days later on Sunday 18th  (2:30pm kick-off) at Noosa Grounds, Bicentennial Drive, Sunshine Beach. A South Qld team will be selected from these matches to go on to play the State Country Carnival against Central Qld and North Qld, this process is all part of the representative pathways that gives country players the opportunity to be selected for the Qld Country Heelers and beyond.

“We have a good mix of age and youth in the team”, said Brendan, “With a couple of boys such as halfback Nick Chapman having just represented Queensland U19’s  in a recently played carnival in Adelaide. Combine these players with the experience of last year’s Club ‘player of year’ Lasaro Manamoli and 2013 Premier Stingrays ‘player of the year’ Matt MaCaulay and I think we have the balance just right.  player participation with the boys gelling well as a squad given the short preparation. Early season injuries and the lack of match practise has limited full team runs but Brendan is confident he has the key decision makers to put them in a position to be serious challengers.

– SCRU Presidents XV playing Darling Downs U19s on Saturday 17 May (1:30pm kick off) as a curtain raiser to Gold Coast v Darling Downs (3:00pm kick off).

– Sunshine Coast Under 19 Representative Team playing Darling Downs (1:00pm kick off) as a curtain raiser to the Sunshine Coast Stingrays v Darling Downs at 2:30pm on Sunday 18 May.

All these matches will take place at the Noosa Rugby Union grounds.
