Just 2 rounds to play and the competition has never been closer at the top with Caboolture, Noosa and Caloundra all tussling for the top spot. In 2007 the Minor Premiership was not finalised until the very last game of the season as Nambour edged out a fast finishing USC but to have the top 3 up in the air with 2 weeks to play is a first in many years if not the entirety of the Sunshine Coast A Grade competition. The main game of the round may well put an end to the uncertainty with Noosa travelling to Caloundra.
Caloundra vs Noosa, Lighthouse Park
The Lighthouses have been the quiet achievers late in the season with all the talk around Noosa and Caboolture but with 2 games left they are 1 competition point off of the top job and have a healthy points differential. A win over Noosa will rocket them into the top 2. A win to Noosa on the other hand will keep the Dolphins in the top 2 and give them the best chance at sealing the minor premiership. Its certainly going to be a cracker and lives up to the match of the round tag.
Maroochydore vs University, Cotton Tree Oval
Had a few things gone their way this could have been Maroochydore’s chance at getting into the top four but some narrow losses have seen the Swans struggle through the season. Thats not to say they won’t bring their A game as they love nothing more than to knock off the Barbarians. In 1997 the USC Rugby Club was formed and sharing the same catchment area as Maroochydore previously had a mortgage on the Barbarians clash became the local derby in the Sunshine Coast Rugby Competition. Fast forward 15 years and the two sides have still no love lost between them. These clashes bring out the best in both clubs and draws a big crowd with many old boys from both sides pencilling in this day as a must attend early in the season. Both sides are coming off of losses and will want a win to et back on track which will add more spice to the contest.
Caboolture vs Nambour, Kevin Kaeser Oval
Caboolture made a statement at Stockland Park last weekend thrashing University with a dominant first half performance to put the focus on them as premiership favourites. The game against Nambour is their last of the regular season and they’ll be chasing a bonus point win to give them every chance of holding onto the top position given they have the bye next weekend. Nambour will be no pushover, they notched up their fourth win of the season last weekend and will want to finish off their 2012 season by taking a major scalp.
