There’s a new leader in town folks!
You may have noticed that last weeks edition of the Warting Premiereship Round Preview was missing, but the Rugby was most definitley still on. It was a great weekend where the rain managed to hold off, providing some cool conditions for Rugby. After the weekend now the top of the ladder has seen a change up in the top 3.
Maroochydore Swans Vs Fraser Coast Mariners at Cotton Tree Oval, Maroochydore
Both sides were coming of a loss heading into this match. In the previous Round Fraser just couldn’t match Caloundra while the Swans were completely overwhelmed by a rampant Caboolture Snakes outfit. The Mariners have been so far been unable to show the impressive form that saw them edge the dolphins some weeks back; while Maroochydore would be unhappy with their 4th placed position sitting distantly behind the three frontrunners that are Caloundra, Caboolture and Noosa. In the end the Swans took the match by the scruff of the neck to take out a 31 – 5 victory.
Nambour Toads Vs USC Babarians at Stockland Stadium, Bokarina
It was the slaughter by the water as all levels of Sunshine Coast Rugby came together in a great event at Stockland Stadium. Nambour took their home game to Sunshine Coast Rugby headquaters to join the Stingrays in a ‘Carnival of Rugby’ type atmosphere. Players and supporters got to see their club sides go head to head in the great facilities and hospitality available at the redeveloped presinct, as well as get to see the next level of Premier Rugby as the Rays took on Norths Eagles. The last match of the day was between Nambour and Uni. Both sides haven’t racked up as many wins as they would be happy with, and their last encounter saw Uni take the win in a thrilling encounter by 2 points. This time it was a tight and torrid affair, the only try of the first half coming through University Fullback Justin Langford. From then on it was a tussle with USC extending their lead through 2 penatlies to Luke Bridley. Nambour managed a try close to full time through number 9 Adam Harwood, but it was to late to make the comeback, as the failed conversion put them outside of a winning margin.
Noosa Dolphins Vs Caboolture Snakes at Dolphin Oval, Sunshine Beach
It was Round 3 when Caboolture first flagged their potential when they suprised perhaps everyone except themselves to defeat Noosa 25 – 14. Since then the Snakes have become seemingly unstoppable on a six game winning streak inclduding some heavy wins over Nambour and Maroochydore. Noosa are the ever consistent and hardened finals contenders, and despite some suprising lossess so far this season, are always ear marked as a major threat in the competition. This match would have been one the players would have been especially excited for, and the match proved to be a physical affair with neither team giving the other much room to move. In the end, a point of difference for the Snakes was the remarkable performance of Full Back Jay Forrester – once again. Forrester has caught many eyes this season, in addition to his combiation with his back three parteners, and was on tune scoring every point for Caboolture in their 15 – 10 win over the Dolphins with 3 tries.
This effort means Jay extends his lead on number of tries scored with 14! The next closest is Jeremy Sandercock with 6. In addition, the Snakes are now number 1 on the Wartung Premiereship on 32 Points as Caloundra, who had the Bye, move to 2nd on 29 points, 3rd is Noosa also on 29 points but lower on the differential. It looks to be a 3 team race for the minor premiership as 4th Maroochydore are some way behind on 19 points.
